Games Like HuniePop: What to Play Next, Sorted by What You Actually Liked
Short version: HuniePop is unusual because it is three things bolted together — a genuinely good match-3 puzzle, a resource loop where you optimise gifts and stats to unlock the next date, and an adult visual novel that uses explicit art as the completion reward. Almost nothing does all three. So "games like HuniePop" splits immediately: HuniePop 2: Double Date for more of the same puzzle with a harsher curve, Hush Hush for the optimisation loop done better and written far better, Love Esquire for stat-raising with RPG combat instead of tiles, Crush Crush for the numbers-go-up feeling with no puzzle at all, and Monster Prom or Hooked on You if what you liked was the tone rather than the systems.
Disclosure up front: DM with Me, mentioned near the end, is our own game. It is a poor match for most of what people want from HuniePop, and that section says so plainly. Skip it and the rest of the page still works.
What HuniePop actually is, mechanically
HuniePop is a 2015 tile-matching and dating sim hybrid for Windows, macOS and Linux, created by American designer Ryan Koons under the HuniePot name after a successful Kickstarter, and released on 19 January 2015 via Humble Bundle, MangaGamer and a censored version on Steam. It became a genuine hit — Steam lists it at $9.99 with somewhere between one and two million owners, and it holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating across more than 20,000 reviews. It also caused an immediate mess on Twitch, where streamers began getting banned for it within two days of release, which is a large part of why anyone outside the visual novel audience has heard of it.
Strip the marketing away and the loop is this: you meet a woman, you talk to her to earn a currency, you spend that currency on stat upgrades and gifts, and then you go on a date that is a timed match-3 puzzle against a target score. Win and the relationship advances. That is the machine. It works because all three layers feed each other — better conversation earns better upgrades, which makes the puzzle winnable, which unlocks more conversation.
When people say a game is "like HuniePop," they are almost never talking about all three at once. Work out which layer you were there for and this list gets short fast.

HuniePop 2: Double Date is the direct sequel, released on 8 February 2021 by HuniePot for Windows and Mac at $19.99, moving the setting to an island resort. The central new mechanic is the double date: you manage two women on screen at once, each with her own preferences, across 24 possible pairings drawn from a cast of twelve. Appetite and drink meters are gone, replaced by per-character stamina bars, and you choose the protagonist's gender at the start. It is fully voice acted and shipped uncensored on Steam, which the first game did not.
It is also the entry most likely to disappoint, and the reason is difficulty. In the first game you could grind your way out of a losing streak — chat the girls up, earn currency, buy piece-effectiveness upgrades, retry the date. HuniePop 2 removed those upgrades entirely, leaving only gifts and food items, then added stamina management on top. The net effect, as reviewers noted at the time, is that Easy in the sequel is harder than Normal in the original. Analysis of its Steam reviews turns up the same cluster of complaints repeatedly: difficulty spikes arriving too early, the stamina and baggage systems, and outcomes that hinge on RNG. The other common verdict is that the double-date idea is sound and the roster is weaker — the sequel's cast gets described as caricatures next to the first game's.
Play it if the match-3 was the point and you want a harder version. Skip it if you bounced off the original's later dates; this one is less forgiving, not more.
If you were there for the optimisation loop
This is the biggest group and the best served. What you liked was the planning — which gift, which stat, which girl, in which order.
Hush Hush – Only Your Love Can Save Them is the strongest recommendation on this page and the least obvious one. It is a visual novel and management sim from Sad Panda Studios, the team behind Crush Crush and Blush Blush; it was Kickstarted, hit Early Access in August 2022, and reached 1.0 in April 2023. You juggle a schedule and five love interests, each hiding a secret that will kill her unless you find it and deal with it in time. Structurally it is closer to HuniePop than to a normal visual novel — one reviewer who went in expecting silly harem fluff came out describing it as effectively a puzzle game requiring forethought, and was caught off guard by how grounded the characters' traumas turned out to be. Budget 12 to 14 hours, and note that it opens with a spoiler-heavy content warning list for good reason.
Love Esquire swaps tiles for turn-based combat. You play a useless squire with a few months to win over one of five heroines before being shipped off to war, raising strength, charisma and intelligence that feed both the fighting and the relationships. It released in October 2019 from Yangyang Mobile and sits at Very Positive on Steam, around 89% across roughly a thousand reviews, with critics generally landing on "straightforward, well produced, good voice cast, no boundaries pushed." It is the closest thing to HuniePop's raise-the-numbers-then-pass-the-check rhythm with an entirely different check.
Kitty Powers' Matchmaker is the odd one out and worth a look anyway. From Magic Notion, it launched on mobile in September 2014 and on Steam in April 2015. You are not dating anyone — you run a matchmaking agency, pairing clients and steering their dates through minigames, hosted by a drag queen. Same optimisation itch, none of the wish fulfilment, and it is the most family-friendly thing on this page by a wide margin.
If you were there for numbers going up
Crush Crush is HuniePop's loop with the puzzle removed and an idle clicker in its place. It was Sad Panda Studios' first game and has passed ten million downloads across mobile, PC and Nintendo Switch; on Google Play alone it has over a million installs and sits around 4.5 stars from more than 70,000 reviews. You work jobs, earn money, buy gifts, unlock hobbies, and progress accrues while the game is closed. PC Gamer's summary was that there is a sea of low-effort adult junk on Steam, and then there is Crush Crush. Blush Blush is the same design with men as the love interests, released in 2019.
It is free, it is on almost everything, and it will tell you within twenty minutes whether progression was what you actually enjoyed. Be aware that it is engineered to keep going indefinitely — there is no ending to reach, which is the opposite of HuniePop's finite structure.
If you were there for the tone
Some people liked HuniePop for the brash comedy and its willingness to let you fail, not for the systems at all.
Monster Prom is the best fit: three weeks to secure a prom date at a monster high school, fast and profane writing, and a game that will flatly reject you if you play it badly. Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim is the licensed curiosity. Developed by Psyop and published by Behaviour Interactive, it released in August 2022 and lets you romance four killers from Dead by Daylight; pursue more than one at a time, or annoy one badly enough, and you die. Minigames raise their opinion of you. Reception was mixed and the criticisms are consistent — one reviewer found it too wacky, with a fourth-wall-breaking narrator crowding out any real story, and clocked a full playthrough at about an hour. RPGFan's verdict was that it is easy to recommend to Dead by Daylight lore obsessives and thin for everyone else. Worth it if the franchise means something to you; otherwise skip.
Date Everything! is the biggest recent swing in this register — a hundred fully voiced dateable household objects, genuinely funny, and by most accounts better grazed than completed. It is covered on our best dating sims roundup with the rest of the Western indie shelf.
If you were there for the adult content
Worth being direct about, since it is a large part of why people search this. HuniePop uses explicit art as its completion reward, and it shipped in censored and uncensored versions, with the censored Steam build easily patched. That structure — clear the gameplay check, unlock the image — is common across the adult end of the genre, and most of what uses it is not worth your time.
The useful filter is whether there is a real game underneath. HuniePop, Hush Hush and Love Esquire all pass that test; even HuniePop's own fans tend to describe the explicit content as a reward and a progress marker rather than the focus. Most of what a storefront will recommend you next does not clear that bar. Tags are more honest than store descriptions here: check for Puzzle, Strategy or RPG sitting alongside the Sexual Content and Nudity tags. If those are missing, the systems probably are too.
What about HuniePot's other games?
HunieCam Studio (2016) is a management sim, not a dating sim — you run an agency against a stopwatch, juggling resources. It shares an art style with HuniePop and almost nothing else. Spiral Scouts is a puzzle game with no dating layer at all; the developer finished it and then moved full-time onto HuniePop 2. Both get recommended constantly as "games like HuniePop" and neither really is.
Where DM with Me fits (and mostly doesn't)
DM with Me is ours, and it is an honest mismatch for most of this page. It is a free browser dating sim built on live-model video rather than illustration, with one love interest, Elise, across ten locations. There is no puzzle, no stat sheet, no gift economy, no roster and no unlock gallery — which is to say, none of the three things HuniePop is made of. What it has instead is conversation: you type what you would actually say rather than picking from a menu, and the story carries your history forward. Play it if the part of HuniePop you liked was the characters talking back, and the systems were something you tolerated to get there. Skip it if you want a game you can beat — HuniePop is a game you can lose, and this deliberately is not.
